Water Temperature: The temperatures listed above apply to water at around 18m (60ft), and therefore shallower water will often be a degree or more warmer. In contrast, deeper water will generally get colder, usually down to a minimum of 25°C (77°F) at the most extreme.

Wet Suit: Most people that come to Tobago usually use a 3mm shortie, which applies to the majority of our rental equipment. If you particularly feel the cold, especially after a dive of 45 minutes plus, then consider a full suit.

Visibility: Speyside without doubt has much better visibility than the south of Tobago, and the figures listed above apply to Speyside. This is primarily due to run off from the land, and much less water movement in general in the south. Speyside can at times be variable in terms of surface visibility, due to nutrient rich water coming from the Orinoco in South America. Fortunately this only usually effects the first 5 metres (15ft), after which the visibility is usually excellent. However in the south this "green water" can hang around for a while, and dissapate into the whole water volume. This generally results in moving southern dive locations further north, towards Castara, or south into the "Shallows" (ie Flying Reef, Stingray Alley, etc).

Air Temperature: Tobago, being near the equator, does not suffer from extremes of temperature. You can be fairly sure of the daytime temperature being around 29°C (84°F) and the night time temperature being around 24°C (76°F). Although we can get some strong winds, we are outside of the hurricane belt, so we rarely have non-diveable days. All of our boats are fitted with canopies, to avoid over exposure to the sun, although for those sun worshippers amongst you, there is still space on the boat to sun-bathe.
