For the Year 2012 - WOW Hosts IDC and IE
For the week leading up to the IDC, we intend to offer (subject to availability of instructors) a free Divemaster workshop starting at 1:00pm each day for those candidates signed up who would like to do an academics refresher. Classroom training will be done either in our own dive centre or the conference facilities of the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort, with the pool training done in the ONLY DESIGNED AND DEDICATED DIVE POOL on the island. The Open Water sections of the training can be completed in the warm blue waters of Tobago. Prices for the courses start at US$1200 for the IDC, US$175 for the EFRI. These prices do NOT include course materials or registration with PADI.
December 2008 - Delta, Monarch and Cruise lines come to Tobago
Coming to Tobago from the U.S. Until recently, the easiest way to get from the US to Tobago was to fly into Trinidad (Port
of Spain) and take the shuttle flight across to Tobago. The airlines flying
US-Trinidad routes are Delta (ATL), American Airlines (MIA), Continental (IAH
and EWR) and Caribbean Airlines (JFK and MIA). From December 2008, Delta
will be flying directly from Atlanta straight to Tobago every
Coming to Tobago from the U.K. British Airways and Virgin fly to Tobago weekly, but from December 2008,
Monarch will take over the route left vacant when Excel Airlines went into
receivership earlier this year. Monarch will be
operating a weekly Wednesday service from London Gatwick. October 2008 - Tobago has some new Instructors! In early October 2008, World of Watersports held its first IE since the current owners took charge. The intructor examination was a complete success and all six candidates passed their exams, as can be seen from the photographs below and to the right.
This month we added three new BSAC instructors to our team! Mike Thomas made a special trip to Tobago to train three of our staff in a crossover from PADI. It was a week long training course whereby we all got to know a lot more about BSAC, and maybe even helped Mike know a little more about PADI. WOW's would like to thank Mike and BSAC for offering us this opportunity and putting so much faith in us. We're the only BSAC training centre on the island. With SEAN ROBINSON (BSAC Advanced Instructor), we have all the BSAC instructors on the island, and are able to cover any and all of your BSAC training in Tobago.
At the very end of March 2006, we were visited by 13 lads and three staff from Caldicott School in Buckinghamshire, UK. Most of the young men hadn?t dived before, and it was the start of a week long adventure, which saw each of them attain the level of Junior Open Water Diver. For an entire week the boys ate, slept and breathed scuba information, with the exception of a game of soccer with the Speyside local boys on their final day. It was hard work for them, but they rose to the challenge marvellously, and were incredibly well behaved, polite lads, who were a credit to their families and staff at the school. We hope, one day, to have them back for their advanced courses and beyond! And, boys? any time you want a re-match, you know where to find us! January 2006 - We're on TV
That was the plan, but they also wanted to take a look at our Dive Centre, and have a chat with my wife Lisa. She's now famous, and I can't get her to work anymore, with people calling or emailing all the time asking about her! Damn, I should have been there that day, instead of diving! Fred Aidroos, the director, came to learn his PADI Rescue Course, and spend some time with us. He made extra special mention of the dive shop in the show, for which we are very grateful. We look forward to seeing him and the team, at some time in the future. |
