Roxborough Hyperbaric Facility

Tobago's hyperbaric chamber is located in Roxborough, which is about 20 minutes drive from Speyside and about 40 minutes drive from the Crown Point Area.  It is a very new facility, which has been kept in excellent condition, with a number of failsafes both in terms of protection from fire and power cuts.

Last year a training session was held for a number of people on Tobago, to be trained as assistants, which included Lifeguards, Firemen, and we are pleased to say, one of our own staff. The chamber is maintained regularly to make sure that it remains in excellent condition, and is served by several members of staff including Kerwin Sampson and Keisha Sandy.

Treatments that can be performed by the Hyperbaric chamber:

• Non-healing wounds (e.g. in diabetics to prevent loss of limbs)
• Necrotizing fasciitis (flesh-eating bacteria)
• Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
• Decompression Sickness (e.g. "the bends")
• Severe infection by anaerobic bacteria (e.g. gas gangrene)
• Air or gas embolism
• Severe uncorrected anemia
• Enhancement of healing in problem wounds
• Sport Injuries
• Radiation soft tissue necrosis and radiation osteonecrosis

Thus far the Roxborough Hyperbaric Facility has been used successfully to treat decompression sickness, non-healing wounds and gas gangrene.
