Dive Crew
We are without doubt the best skilled team on the island. Not only do we have the highest qualified (in teaching status), most experienced, longest serving, and in my personal opinion, best team on the island. You will find the members of staff listed below have been selected over the years as the best in their fields, and we are always on the lookout to add to our team, and make sure we also have a number of trainees in the wings.
The directors of World of Watersports are Mark Borrett and John Borrett :-
Name: John Borrett
Position: Managing Director
Qualifications: PADI Master Instructor, Licenced Boat Captain, EFR Instructor (+Children), BSAC Instructor, Nitrox Diver, Gas Blender,
DAN First Aid Instructor
Date Joined: 2005
Comments: John came to Tobago in 2005 from his own dive centre in Essex in the UK. Tired of diving in temperatures so low that it made his teeth chatter, he decided that the best way to stop that would be to move to warmer climes! However, this doesn’t stop John being Tobago’s most qualified instructor, with enough specialities to paper his own office, and then some. John brings 15 years diving experience with him. John has the patience of a saint according to his pupils, and a devilish streak in him a mile wide which makes him popular with old and young alike. He’s often asked to perform above and beyond the call of duty with odd requests that range from ‘Can I hold your hand on the dive?’ (which is a fairly regular occurrence!), to ‘Can you video my underwater wedding…. Oh, and teach the priest to dive!’ which happened a few years ago.
Name:
Mark Borrett
Position: Director
Qualifications: PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, EFR
Instructor (+Children), Scubapro Service Technician, BSAC Instructor, DSAT Gas
Blender
Date Joined: March 2004
Comments: I came to Tobago in September 2003,
and after working with several dive centres on the island, joined WOW in
December 2006. I had spent the first 20 years of my life as a programmer, web designer and IT Manager. In my spare time I trained in the UK as an instructor, diving in Stoney Cove and Gildenburgh on a regular basis. For non English divers, they are very cold, poor visibility quarries that we have to use when it’s impossible to dive on the coast. You may then ask why? I did many times! And that's why I'm here now. I brought my wife and daughter here in 2003, and spent several months looking for an opportunity.
After several years of working with other dive centres, WOW seemed too good an opportunity to miss, and so now here I am. I've done 500+ dives over a
twenty year diving period, and spend most of my time at the moment writing this web site, although I do make the odd guest appearance.
I also have a new addition to the family, a baby girl born in Trinidad on 15 December
2005.
VHL Tobago Crew
Name: Andre Fraser
Position: Dive Shop Manager
Qualifications: PADI Instructor, Experienced Boat Captain, EFR Trained, Nitrox Diver, Gas Blender
Date Joined: 2000
Comments: Andre is World of Watersports longest serving employee, having been trained as a diver and instructor with the company,
with over 9 years in the business.
In his spare time Andre "the beast" Fraser has been a kick boxing champion, of which he has a vast
collection of trophies. These days he tends to be a lot less physical, and
tends to his own farm, primarily rearing farm animals. He is probably one
of the best known instructors on the island, with an extraordinary following of
repeat customers, especially those he has taught over the years.
Name: Marvin Phillips
Position: Divemaster and Boat Captain
Qualifications: PADI Divemaster, Experienced Boat Captain, EFR Trained, Nitrox Diver, Gas Blender
Date Joined: 2005
Comments: Marvin is WOW's handyman, he is someone
who can turn his hand to anything, from plumbing to carpentry. When he is
not driving the boat or diving, Marvin tends to the maintenance of our swimming
pool, compressor or vehicles. In fact one of his personal hobbies is his car
and its stereo, where he regularly attends shows. Marvin was once a freelance
divemaster on the island, with over 9 years experience in the business, he has spent
almost seven years working with WOW.
Name: Cristel Ravello
Position: Shop Assistant, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
Date Joined: 2006
Comments: Cristel is the youngest member of our
crew, and is the smiling friendly face you will almost certainly meet on our front
desk. She has spent the last year learning to dive achieving the PADI Advanced
Open Water certification so far, and in her spare time is training to be an Air
Hostess.
Name: Kimberley Stanisclaus
Position: Assistant Instructor and Boat Captain
Qualifications: PADI Assistant Instructor, Experienced Boat Captain, EFR Trained
Date Joined: 2006
Comments: Kim joined us in May of 2006, and then moved onto World of Watersports in December 2006. Despite being one of our newest employees, she’s slotted in like she’s been here forever. Kim throws tanks around two at a time, and is also a very experienced boat captain as well as PADI Assistant Instructor.
Kim has worked with several other dive centres on Tobago, making for an excellent all-round knowledge of Tobago’s many dive sites.
